BioFuelNet (BFN) Canada is a federally-incorporated, not-for-profit organization and former Network of Centres of Excellence (NCE) with a proven record of accomplishment in bioeconomy research and innovation. Since 2012, BFN integrated the efforts of over 230 researchers from across Canada, working in 29 post-secondary institutions, and 127 industry partners.

BFN’s vision is the emergence of a Canadian bioeconomy, based on advanced biofuels and products that are socially, economically and environmentally sustainable and globally competitive.

BFN’s mission is to catalyze the expansion of Canada’s bioeconomy by creating a national network to drive the commercialization of advanced biofuels and associated bioproducts through integrated research, innovation, talent development, effective policy and strategic partnerships.

The organization is now putting emphasis on commoditizing agricultural biomass as an indispensable building block for the Canadian bioeconomy. It also offers an online Advanced Biofuels Course providing valuable overviews of the challenges and opportunities surrounding biofuels feedstocks, conversion techniques, utilisation and commercialization, as well as policy and sustainability issues.

BFN’s active social media is a hub for updates on bioenergy research and commercialisation in Canada and beyond, helping to integrate BFN within players at the global forefront of bioeconomy development.
