Biomass gasification and power generation technology in developed countries has received extensive attention, such as in Austria, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden, the United States and other countries whose proportion of biomass energy in the total energy consumption has increased rapidly. Austria successfully implemented a plan to build a regional power station for burning wood residues. Sweden and Denmark are putting the plan of using biomass for co-generation into practice, so that biomass energy can meet the heating need while converted into the premium electric energy. With the development of economy, some developing countries gradually attach importance to the development and utilization of biomass. China, the Philippines, Malaysia and some African countries, have carried out research and exploitation of biomass gasification, molding cure and pyrolysis technology.
 
Beginning in the 1980s, biomass gasification technology in China has gradually improved after years’ effort. So far the technology of converting biomass into combustible gas has been successfully exploited, mostly in the use of fixed bed gasification like ND Series in Hebei, XFL Series in Shandong and GSQ110 Type in Guangzhou. The fixed bed equipment has the advantages of simple structure, handy  operation and low investment cost. It usually uses air as gasifying agent. However, a large amount of nitrogen gas in the air results in low biomass gas calorific, generally only 5000kjnm. Besides, high tar content could cause pipeline blockage. The industry mostly uses the way of water washing to exhaust tar, and the wastewater will consequently cause secondary pollution. It’s obvious that the way of water washing of biochemical treatment process is not mature. Therefore, thoroughly solving the tar problem will be the priority in the future.
 
Biomass gas fluidized bed process produce a large amount of biomass gas about 12000kjnm. The rates of gas production and gasification efficiency reach 95% and 63% respectively, but this is a complex process equipment and the operation is not easy to master. Besides, there exist many unresolved problems: firstly, many gasification process fail to meet the design requirements of households, which causes the reducing rate of equipment utilization; secondly, tar problem results in large inconvenient assembly and cleaning due to pipeline blockage; thirdly, it’s difficult to operate and maintain gasification stations due to high cost; lastly, low gas calorific value and gasification intensity can not fully meet the needs of users.
 
In recent years, China began to develop biomass gasification technology, so the higher biomass utilization technology has just started. The original biomass production of solid combustion has been mature, but it’s difficult to promote because of the cost. Although biomass liquid combustion has been carried out, most of it is in the experimental stage. According to the current conditions and social needs, its future development prospects will be inestimable! Using current technology to research and develop a feasible and efficient system is one of the main problems in the development of biomass gasification power generation technology and also the key to the effective utilization of biomass energy in China. Therefore, it’s a golden opportunity to penetrate China’ market with huge potential.
